Biography

Yeong Ja Jung received recognition as a historical pioneer for fine arts photography in South Korea in 2021. She received mentorship from Arthur Ollman, former Founding Director at the San Diego Museum of Photographic Arts, and Jung Kang Lee, Vice Chairman of the Photo Artist’s Society of Korea and professor at Jungang University. She was also a close friend of Ruth Bernhard and recognized as a fellow contemporary in fine arts photography. In the early 1980s, the vivid colors in Jung’s vintage prints of “Plant Series” impressed Alan Ross, a long-term friend, and colleague of Ansel Adams. She has held exhibitions in Korea and the United States. From 2005 – 2020, Jung took a fifteen-year hiatus due to health complications, later rebooting her career in August 2021 with a group exhibition of historical women photographers at the Buk-Seoul Museum of Art.
